Regenerative Waste Management

Project type

Training & Implementation

Date

2016- current

Location

Durham N.C, Boone N.C, Asheville N.C, Manhattan N.Y, Iquitos Peru, Cusco Peru

Role

Training Facilitator

I specialize in developing regenerative waste systems that reduce landfill loads through composting, recycling, and community education. My work combines workshops, resource planning, and partnerships with local stakeholders to build circular economies adapted to diverse contexts in the U.S. and Peru.

In North Carolina, I introduced 3-bin composting systems for gardeners and collaborated with Asheville Greenworks to establish lunchroom composting in six elementary schools. Through whole-school presentations and my role as “Charlie Compost,” and in partnership with Danny’s Dumpsters, the program engaged students and inspired neighboring districts to adopt similar practices.

In Peru, I worked with an Amazonian lodge and an Andean hotel to transition from unsustainable waste practices to circular models. This included staff training, the design of composting centers, and the creation of hauling logistics to process biodegradable waste in the forest and transport recyclables by river to Iquitos. These systems not only reduced waste but also produced nutrient-rich soil for botanical gardens and strengthened local livelihoods.

Currently in New York City, I am advancing the “1000 Hotbox Systems NYC” campaign with The Brotherhood Sister Sol. My role focuses on organizing around waste solutions and scaling localized composting across the five boroughs, while drawing on bicultural experience to promote effective classification and responsible disposal practices.
